Some years ago, Nick, a Greek – American citizen, spoke to his fellow friend about the Revolution of 1821 and the need of this part of our national story to be spread around the world. The Greek War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire amazed his pal Chris Jaymes, an American musician, television and film actor, director, screenwriter and producer.
Chris became obsessed with the “Struggle” and this is how “Sons of Chaos” -a panoramic graphic novel that exposes the quiet agenda of the Ottoman Empire’s most brutal dictator, and his fascination with a young Greek that would define the Western World- was born. “Markos Botsaris was the hero that inspired me the most. I found lots that he have in common”, says the creator of “Sons of Chaos” in a brief interview he had with the Hellenic Daily News.
We met Chris Jaymes the previous week in Athens where he had various appointments with the head of the Greek Ministry of Culture, important people in the field of the Arts and even with celebrities who embraced his work; “An immersion into the moments we never see, and the self-serving motivations that convince a nation that violence is warranted, and that war is necessary”, as it is described in the official website for the promo of the graphic novel.
The American artist passed the last few years studying the Greek history. “I have come to the conclusion that the Greeks, whenever happens a serious ‘chaos’ in the world, or they have to do with something unknown that needs to be ‘fixed’, somehow they come together and do fantastic things. And after that, they turn against each other. This how they remain divided, until the next problem, where magically they reunite and do miracles”, underlines about the taste of the Greek spirit he is left with after reading tones of books.
“I think the timing is good for the world now, to become together as much as possible. There is a big trend of polarization and propaganda that turn us against one another. Do the amazing things the Greece has done for the revolution and help unite the world”, is his message to the Greeks abroad.
